This wonderful hanging swag lamp is from the early 1970s. It looks very much like the Fenton hobnail
that I have in other items. It has the same type ruffle and band at the top of the shade that I have seen on
Fenton lamps on other web sites. Fenton did not mark their pieces until 1973. We built our present home in 1971 and I was into hobnail milk glass. It was popular and readily available in those days. This is a large lamp that is 18” tall overall. The shade is 10 ½” in diameter, and the ruffled top is 7” in diameter. The 3 chains that hold the frame are 18” long. The frame including the 3 chain hooks is 11 ½” wide. The bottom globe is
4” in diameter. The swag chain that holds the cord is about 14’ long and the cord with plug is about 2’ longer than the chain. You can see how the chain is secured by 2 antique brass hooks on the ceiling which are included. This beautiful lamp has a heavy solid hobnail, milk glass shade that has deep ruffles at the top. The shade rests on an antique brass ring. Inside is a clear glass globe with a bulb. There is a 5” pull chain that is in good working condition. No weakness or hanging in turning the lamp on or off. The decorative globe at the base is a painted hobnail and there are a few small spots of paint loss which are not noticeable.
I thought it was also milk glass all these years until examining it to write this description. The enclosure for the lamp socket is a decorative light colored brass, as well as the knob below the small globe. The chains and the shade holder are antique brass, all in excellent condition. This is a quality vintage hanging swag lamp in Hobnail Milk Glass and it would be very rare to find anything like it today. It would add an elegant and nostalgic touch to a country or traditional décor.
